Snowbird Cell Block
Most inmates love Snowbird because it is full-priveleged (meaning you can order anything off of commissary, you have access to microwaves and ice and can work in the kitchen). Snowbird is basically a huge dorm with one-hundred or so inmates on bunks (yes, all sleeping in the same room). If you have trouble sleeping with a lot of snoring going on around you I highly recommend you get some earplugs off of commissary - they will be well worth the small investment.
By the time you get to Snowbird (it has probably been 1-2 months by now) you really have 3 choices:
1) Work in the kitchen or garden (in the summer).
2) Try to get into Jail Industries (JI).
3) Play cards all day and wait to get out.
I highly recommend the Jail Industries Program for most inmates doing any significant amount of time. If you only have a month or so left they probably will not consider you for the program, but if you are doing 3 months or more this will really help pass your time.
The kitchen is also a nice option. The time goes fast (because you are actually doing something) and you get to eat as much food as you want. Inmates are known to gain a lot of weight while working in the kitchen. While there are some non-inmate staff in the kitchen the food is prepared mostly by the inmates which saves some taxpayer money.
Snowbird has a few areas for showering with 4 showerheads but it is very rare for inmates to shower while somebody else is in there. Just wait for an opportune time of the day when nobody is in the shower and go in yourself. The jail will provide you with some standard issue soap (which can also be used as shampoo), but you can get better stuff off of commissary - it's worth it.
