Medications
The Utah County Jail will allow you to use most of your required prescriptions and provides access to various over-the-counter medications you may need while incarcerated. Twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) a physician will come into each section of the jail with a "drug cart." The physician will have your prescription information and will allow you to take one dose of your medication. The physician will give you your pills and a cup of water. They watch you take your pills and have you open your mouth after taking the pills to ensure you are not "cheeking your meds" (attempting to smuggle your pills back to your cell to either sell to another inmate or to take later). The penalty for cheeking meds is severe and can result in a reduction of good time - it is not worth it.
If you require anxiety pills (such as Xanax) they will likely allow you to take them. They typically will not allow you to take sleep-aids, such as Ambien or Lunesta. The rationale is that these pills will simply knock you out and help you do your time easier - the jail is not interested in making your "time" any easier.
