Good time
Yeah, the name sounds kind of obvious and dumb, but trust me, it's a great thing. "Good time" at the Utah County Jail is what you probably know as "time off for good behavior" from television. The Utah County Jail is so full right now (and the problem is only getting worse) that they don't have enough room for all the inmates. To combat this overcrowding the Jail will allow you one day off for every two days served - you effectively shave 1/3 of your sentence off with good time.
Good time is not difficult to get - basically everybody receives it. You have to do something really stupid to be not be eligible for good time - something like smuggling tobacco into the jail, getting in a fight or disobeying a guard. Even when you get in trouble it is pretty rare to actually lose your good time so don't worry too much about not being eligible for it.
The only real threat to good time eligibility is your judge - if your judge specifically says "no good time," then the jail cannot give you good time until the judge changes his/her mind. If your judge is upset enough to deny you good time at sentencing talk to your attorney about a strategy for getting it back.
