Recommended Books

Inmates in the Utah County Jail spend a lot of time reading. Even inmates in work release and Jail Industries have long weekends where they can't leave the premises. One of the best ways to combat boredom, in the blocks or the annex, is to read books.

Many inmates family's feel compelled to send a lot of self-help books and books about improving oneself. While these can be good keep in mind that most inmates (even the ones who would like these books) want to find a book that will just pass the time - novels by John Grisham and Tom Clancy are good examples.

Inmates in the Utah County Jail, however, do not actually own the books they receive. Technically they become official jail property. Inmates will receive the right to their books first and most keep them in their own personal lockers (or crates, in the blocks), but inmates are not supposed to take them with them when they leave. They may only have five books in their possession at any time - if the guards do a raid (looking for drugs or other illegal contraband), they may take away any books above the five allowed.

All books must be purchased new and shipped directly from the retailer (ie, Amazon) - you may not send used books to the jail, they will not make it to an inmate. Here is the mailing address for all inmates. Just be sure to include the inmate's name:
